School History

St. Joseph’s School Gorakhnath founded on23rd February, 2001 had a humble beginning with five teachers and 110 students from classes L.K. G. to I. The school began functioning in a tin shed on a patch of land which was surrounded by mango groves and infested with wild animals. Today the place has become a temple of learning and the school has carved out a distinct place in the educational map of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The school was the gift of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur to the consistent demands of the people of Gorakhnath for a school of Global standards which would cater to the all round development of their children. The school was started under the guidance of His Excellency Most Rev. Dominic Kokkat CST, Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur with Rev. Fr. Sony Kalladanthiyil as the Principal. St. Joseph’s School, Gorakhnath is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, and administered by the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur. It’s a Christian Minority educational institution enjoying all the privileges and prerogatives as admissible under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India. Although the school is set up primarily for the educational needs of Christian children, the school admits children of all casts, creeds, religions, regions, languages, cultures with all freedom and liberty to pursue their faith with respect and dignity. The school obtained the mandatory ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 14th May, 2006 and temporarily got affiliated to the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi on 20th December, 2006. Later the school obtained permanent affiliation and was raised to the status of ISC School (Classes XI and XII) from the academic year in 2010- 2011. Abiding by the motto ‘Lead Kindly Light’ the school takes firm and steady steps for the academic excellence, development of skills and the character formation of the future citizens.

The school marched ahead taking giant strides in the field of education under the second Principal Rev. Fr. Joseph Kottukapally, and continues the successful voyage under able and charismatic leadership of Rev. Fr. Jose Kokkandathil, the present Principal and the Patronage of Most Rev. Thomas Thuruthmattam CST, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur.
